26-07-2010 Commonwealth calendar 26.01/08/2010 Today I'm starting with a new initiative.
At the beginning of the week I will be publishing a calendar of cycling races in the English-speaking countries.
I'm doing this to prove that cycling is very popular in the English-speaking world, contrary to what many people may think !!
Here's our first week :
1.
24-05-2010 Michael Rogers wins Tour of California 2010
Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia) won the 2010 Amgen Tour of California on Sunday after withstanding relentless attacks from his rivals in the final miles of the hilly concluding circuit race.
Rogers’ win ended a three-year streak at the California tour for Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack), who wound up third overall, behind Dave Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions).
Zabriskie’s teammate Ryder Hesjedal won the stage, outsprinting a small group including George Hincapie (BMC) and Chris Horner (RadioShack).
“They made me sweat until the end,” Rogers said.
23-05-2010 Martin wins seventh stage in Tour of California Tony Martin won the seventh stage of the Tour of California on Saturday, but Australian Michael Rogers extended his overall lead by finishing second in the 33.6km time-trial on the streets of Los Angeles.
Rogers finished 22 seconds behind his German Columbia teammate, and stretched his narrow lead in the overall standings over American David Zabriskie.
Zabriskie, who started the day four seconds back overall, lost more ground with only the 134.4km final stage in the western Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks remaining on Sunday.
He finished third on Saturday to fall nine seconds off Rogers' lead.
21-05-2010 Peter Sagan wins Stage 5 Tour California
Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Doimo) won stage 5 of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California in a spectacular sprint among the GC hopefuls after a six-man breakaway disintegrated and was retrieved on the finishing circuits in Bakersfield.
It was race leader David Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions) who led out the sprint after three punishing trips up the short, steep climb of China Grade, but he started too soon — Sagan was on his wheel, as was Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia).
And the outcome was a double loss for Zabriskie.

17-05-2010 Mark Cavendish wins Stage 1 of Tour of California SACRAMENTO — The fifth annual Amgen Tour of California began Sunday on a picturesque day in the Gold Country before a muscle-pumping finish by the world's best sprinter and a five-rider pileup in the shadow of the state Capitol encapsulated the drama and terror of road racing.
The spectacle unfolded a half-mile from the end of a 104.2-mile stage from Nevada City to Sacramento, won by England's Mark Cavendish in 4 hours, 4 minutes, 36 seconds.
13-04-2010 Tour of the Battenkill victors set themselves apart CAMBRIDGE -- When she posed for her winner's photo on the steps of the Rice Mansion Inn, Anna Barensfeld decided to spray her soda bottle toward those assembled before giving runner-up Silke Wunderwald a good dousing.
The two had shared so much during the Tour of the Battenkill women's pro/category 1 bicycle race Saturday, it seemed only fitting.
Barensfeld, 27, of Brookline, Mass., edged Wunderwald after a furious sprint.
13-04-2010 New Zealand's NPS 4 : Gordon McCauley wins Kaimai Cycles 1000 The Subway – Avanti Pro Cycling Team filled the top three spots as it dominated Saturday’s 160 kilometre Kaimai Cycles 1000 road race in the Waikato region

29-03-2010 Britain's Premier Calendar 1 : Simon Richardson wins Tour of the Reservoir A cold, dry, sunny but very windy day greeted the 96 riders who rolled out from the village of Blanchland at the start of the Tour of the Reservoir, the opening round of the 2010 Premier Calendar series.
And it was the weather which was to dominate the day: the 87 miles race, sponsored by Northumbrian Water, gave the riders little chance to escape the winds as they tackled six laps of the roads around the huge Derwent Water reservoir.
An big turnout of the country's top teams promise an excellent race, though the big talking point at the start was the enforced absence of race radios, a new rule making its national level debut at the race.
29-03-2010 New Zealand's National Points Series 3 : Forrest Graperide : Josh Atkins wins Christchurch teenager Josh Atkins surprised to take out the sprint to win the third round of the RaboPlus national road in Marlborough today.

A group of nine riders went clear in the men’s race including Atkins, top track rider Jason Allen and national time trial champion Gordon McCauley.

The Benchmark Homes rider held out Allen and McCauley who jumped second overall in the series, only five points behind his fellow Subway Avanti team-mate Matthew Gorter, with Allen moving to sixth.
In fourth place was Chris Jenner, the former European professional, who is now living in Noumea.

"He's ready to go and keen to race" HTC-Columbia's sports director Brian Holm says. "In Andalusia we'll be supporting Mark 100 percent for whatever sprints come up, and then we've got Mick [Michael Rogers] and Maxime [Monfort] for the [stage four] time-trial and the overall. Together with the mountain-top finish on the first day, that time-trial will probably decide the race. However it's a very tough Tour of Andalusia this year, with a lot of climbing for so early in the season, and a break could go at any time."
Holm says former World Time Trial Champion Rogers has built up strong form for the early season races. "He's been training hard and is feeling confident, and I think Maxime's on top of his game right now, too. Our only concern was with Kosta [Konstantsin Siutsou] because he's had a knee injury, but he's got over that and is ready to go. All in all, we've got a good line-up here."

"I'd been working for Bernie [HTC-Columbia teammate Bernhard Eisel] all week, but today with about 30 kilometres to go after the split had happened, I told him I was feeling really strong. He took me to about 500 metres to go to the finish and I went for it.
